Years to Retirement Calculator
Estimate how many years until your savings could cover your planned retirement spending, and the age that implies.
Quick answer
Years to retirement is the first month a simulated balance reaches the target. The balance grows monthly with contributions and returns, and the target is annual spending divided by the withdrawal rate or a corpus you set.

No withdrawal rate is safe in every case. Try several.

Assumptions & method
- Target = annual spending ÷ withdrawal rate (as a fraction), or the corpus you enter.
- Monthly rate = (1 + annual return)^(1/12) − 1. Each month: balance = balance × (1 + monthly rate) + monthly saving, with the saving added at month end.
- Time to target is the first month the balance is at or above the target; the simulation stops at 80 years.
- Implied retirement age = current age + time to target. Contributions and spending stay fixed; there are no step-ups.
- The withdrawal rate is your own assumption and is not a guaranteed safe figure. Taxes, fees, inflation (unless in your return), and market volatility are not modelled.
Results are estimates based on the figures you enter. They are not guarantees and not financial advice.
How long until your savings could fund retirement
Retirement readiness comes down to a target and a pace. The target is the portfolio that could support your annual spending at a withdrawal rate you choose, or a corpus figure you set directly. The pace is how fast current savings, new contributions and investment returns build toward it. This calculator simulates the balance month by month and finds the first month it reaches the target. Because withdrawal rates are assumptions, not guarantees, the page lets you adjust them and see how sensitive your timeline is.
