Latte Factor Calculator
See what a small daily habit costs over the years, and what it could grow to if invested instead.
Quick answer
The latte factor is the long-run value of a small recurring spend if invested instead. Monthly amount M grows to M x ((1 + i)^n - 1) / i, where i is the monthly return and n the number of months, compared with the plain total spent.

Assumptions & method
- Weekly spend = amount × days per week (per-day option) or the amount itself (per-week option). Monthly spend M = weekly spend × 52 ÷ 12.
- Future value = M × ((1 + i)^n − 1) ÷ i, with i = annual return ÷ 12, n = years × 12, and one payment at the end of each month. At 0% it is M × n.
- Growth = future value − total spent.
- The spending amount is constant: no price rises, inflation, taxes or fees on the investment.
- Returns are not guaranteed and can be negative. This is an illustration, not advice.

Why small habits add up
A coffee, a snack or a daily delivery fee seems too small to matter, but regular spending repeats hundreds of times a year. Add up those costs and the total over a decade or two can be surprising. Investing the same amount each month instead would also earn returns, and those returns earn returns of their own. This calculator turns your habit into a monthly amount, shows the total you spend, and compares it with the value the same payments could reach at the return you choose. It is a way to see the trade-off clearly, not a judgement on any purchase.
