Short-Term Loan APR Calculator
Convert a flat fee on a short loan into an annualised APR and effective annual rate, with the cost of each rollover.
Quick answer
Short-term loan APR = (fee / principal) x (365 / term in days) x 100. The flat fee is scaled from the loan's few days up to a year, and a rollover repeats the fee while the principal stays unpaid.

Assumptions & method
- Cost for one term = flat fee ÷ amount borrowed.
- APR = (fee ÷ principal) × (365 ÷ days). It is a simple annualisation with no compounding.
- Effective annual rate = (1 + fee ÷ principal)^(365 ÷ days) − 1, assuming the loan is renewed back to back all year.
- Each rollover charges the same flat fee again and the principal stays outstanding; the APR per term does not change.
- Only the fee you enter is counted. Interest, late charges and other add-ons are not included. Estimates, not advice.

Why short loans look expensive as an APR
Short-term loans such as cash advances or paycheck-style loans usually charge a flat fee rather than an interest rate. The fee seems small, but the borrowing period is only days. To compare with a longer loan, the cost for the term is scaled up to a year. Dividing the fee by the principal gives the periodic cost, and multiplying by 365 over the term length gives the APR. If the loan is rolled over, the same fee is charged again, so the total cost climbs while the principal never falls.
