Commission Calculator
Calculate sales commission on a flat rate, marginal tiers, or a base salary with target and accelerator.
Quick answer
Commission is the share of sales paid to a seller. Flat: sales x rate. Tiered: each band of sales earns its own rate, and the band amounts are added. Total pay is any base pay plus commission.

Assumptions & method
- Flat: commission = sales × rate.
- Tiered: each band earns its rate only on the part of sales inside the band. Sales above the last limit earn nothing unless the last tier is left open ("and above").
- Base + target: commission = rate up to target × sales up to target + accelerator rate × sales above target. Total pay = base salary + commission.
- Effective rate = commission ÷ sales. Base salary is not part of it.
- Caps, draws, clawbacks, split credit and tax on earnings are not included.

How sales commission plans work
Commission links pay to results. The simplest plan pays one percentage of sales. Tiered plans pay different rates on different bands of sales, so the rate changes as volume grows, and only the sales within each band earn that band's rate. Many roles combine a base salary with commission, often adding an accelerator that pays a higher rate once a target is passed. This calculator lets you test all three structures, shows how much each band contributes to the total, and gives the effective commission rate so different plans can be compared fairly.
