Days Between Dates Calculator

Find the number of days, weeks, months, years and business days between any two dates.

Quick answer

The days between two dates is the end date minus the start date, counting the start day but not the end day unless you include it. It also shows calendar months and days, weeks and Monday to Friday business days.

Assumptions & method

  • Calendar days = end date − start date (+1 when the end date is included). Dates are treated as whole days, so daylight saving changes do not affect the count.
  • Weeks + days = calendar days ÷ 7 (whole weeks) with the remainder in days.
  • Months + days: whole calendar months are added to the start date without passing the end date; a start day that does not exist in a month is moved to that month's last day. The remainder is shown in days.
  • Years (decimal) = calendar days ÷ 365.25. The note gives whole years, months and days.
  • Business days are Monday to Friday. Public holidays and local working calendars are not included.

Counting the time between two dates

The gap between two dates can be expressed in several ways. Total days is the simplest and is the same wherever you are. Weeks and months are less exact because months have different lengths, so the calculator counts whole calendar months from the start date and reports the leftover days. Business days count Monday to Friday only, which is useful for deadlines, delivery times and settlement periods. You can include the end date when both days matter, or exclude weekends from the headline count, and the other figures update alongside.
