Overtime Pay Calculator
Calculate gross pay with overtime and optional double-time hours, with a clear breakdown of where the money comes from.
Quick answer
Overtime pay is regular hours x base rate, plus overtime hours x base rate x the overtime multiplier (often 1.5), plus double-time hours x base rate x the double-time multiplier. Total gross pay is the sum of the three.

Assumptions & method
- Regular pay = rate × regular hours. Overtime pay = rate × overtime multiplier × overtime hours.
- Double-time pay = rate × double-time multiplier × double-time hours.
- Total = regular + overtime + double-time pay. Effective hourly rate = total ÷ total hours.
- Each hour is counted once: do not repeat overtime hours inside regular or double-time hours.
- Gross pay only. Tax, deductions, bonuses and any rules about which hours qualify for overtime are not included. Results are estimates.

How overtime pay works
Overtime is pay for hours beyond your regular schedule, usually at a higher rate than normal. The higher rate is expressed as a multiplier of your hourly pay: 1.5 is time and a half, and 2 is double time. To find your total, this calculator pays regular hours at your base rate, overtime hours at the base rate times the overtime multiplier and any double-time hours at their own multiplier. It then adds them together and also works out your effective hourly rate, which shows how much extra hours lift your average pay across the week.
