Education Cost Inflation Calculator
See what a course costing a set amount today may cost when it starts, and for each year of study.
Quick answer
Education cost inflation projects what a course will cost when you start it. Future cost = today's cost x (1 + inflation)^years until start, and each later study year grows by one more year of inflation, summed for the total.

Assumptions & method
- Cost in study year k (k = 1, 2, …) = today's cost × (1 + inflation)^(years until start + k − 1).
- Inflation is a single constant annual rate applied from today until each payment date.
- Total over the course is the sum of the yearly costs in future money, not discounted to today.
- Cost multiple = (1 + inflation)^years until start for the first year.
- Only the annual cost you enter is inflated. Savings returns, scholarships, loans and taxes are not included.
Results are estimates based on the figures you enter. They are not guarantees and not financial advice.
How education costs grow
If fees rise by a fixed percentage every year, the cost compounds: after n years, a fee becomes today's fee multiplied by (1 + inflation) raised to n. A course that begins in ten years and runs for four does not cost four times the first year's bill, because each following year is a year further out. This calculator applies that rule to every study year and adds them up. It also shows how many times more expensive education becomes. Use it to understand the size of the gap before deciding how much to save or borrow.
