Vacation Budget Calculator
Add up transport, stay, food and activities for a trip, then see the cost per person, per day and the monthly saving needed.
Quick answer
A vacation budget adds transport, accommodation (nightly rate x nights), food (daily cost x people x days), activities, insurance and miscellaneous costs, then a buffer percentage. Dividing by months until departure gives the monthly saving needed.

Assumptions & method
- Accommodation = nightly cost × nights, where nights = days − 1 (never below zero).
- Food = food per person per day × travellers × days.
- Subtotal = transport + accommodation + food + activities + insurance + miscellaneous. Buffer = subtotal × buffer %. Total = subtotal + buffer.
- Per person = total ÷ travellers. Per day = total ÷ days.
- Monthly saving = (total − already saved) ÷ months until the trip, with no interest or price changes assumed.
- Currency conversion, visa fees, pre-trip purchases and costs after the trip are not included unless you add them to a field.

Budgeting a trip before you book
A trip budget works best when every cost is listed on its own line before you commit to a booking. Fixed items, such as transport, insurance and pre-booked activities, are totals for the group. Costs that scale with time and people, such as lodging and food, depend on the length of the stay and the number of travellers. A buffer on top covers the unexpected. The result shows the grand total, what each traveller pays and the daily cost. If you enter the months left until departure, it also shows the monthly saving needed to pay for the trip without borrowing.
