Savings Challenge Calculator

Work out how much a 52-week or custom step-up saving challenge adds up to, week by week.

Quick answer

A savings challenge saves a set amount each week over a number of weeks. The 52-week version saves n x base in week n (or the reverse), so the total is base x n(n + 1) / 2. A fixed or custom step adds a constant increase each week.

Assumptions & method

  • Incremental: week n deposit = n × base. Reverse: week n deposit = (weeks − n + 1) × base. Fixed: base every week.
  • Custom: week n deposit = base + (n − 1) × increment.
  • Total saved = sum of all weekly deposits. Average per week = total ÷ number of weeks.
  • Interest, bonuses and missed weeks are not included.
  • Amounts are shown rounded to whole units in the table. Results are estimates of your plan, not a forecast.

Results are estimates based on the figures you enter. They are not guarantees and not financial advice.

How saving challenges add up

A saving challenge turns a big goal into small weekly deposits that follow a simple pattern. In the classic 52-week plan you save your base amount in week 1, double it in week 2 and keep stepping up until week 52. The reverse plan runs the other way, a fixed plan saves the same each week and a custom plan adds a set increment every week. This calculator lists each week's deposit and the running total, shows the final sum and charts how fast the pot grows, so you can choose a plan that suits your budget before you begin.
