Asset Turnover Calculator
See how much revenue a business generates per unit of assets, with an optional fixed-asset turnover.
Quick answer
Asset turnover shows how much revenue each unit of assets generates: revenue divided by average total assets, where average assets is (beginning + ending) / 2. Higher means assets are used more efficiently.

Assumptions & method
- Asset turnover = revenue ÷ average total assets, where average = (beginning + ending) ÷ 2.
- Fixed-asset turnover = revenue ÷ average net PP&E. It appears only when both PP&E balances are entered.
- Assets per 1 of revenue = average total assets ÷ revenue, the inverse of turnover.
- Revenue and balances should cover the same period; seasonal businesses may be distorted by two-point averages.
- Not included: industry benchmarks, intangible-asset adjustments or off-balance-sheet assets.

What asset turnover measures
Asset turnover is an efficiency ratio. It shows how many units of revenue the business produces for each unit of assets it uses, so a retailer with fast-moving stock will usually score higher than a utility with heavy infrastructure. Because revenue accrues over a period but assets are measured at a date, the usual approach is to divide by the average of the beginning and ending balances. This calculator does that for total assets and, if you add net property, plant and equipment, for fixed assets too. It also shows how many units of assets are needed to support one unit of revenue, which is the inverse of turnover.
